September 2001

Welcome to the September edition of "At the Movies with tkt". Summer is drawing to a close all too quickly (boo!) and the kids are back in school (yay!). There's still time to catch some cool summer movies in theaters before the doldrums of the fall movie season are in full swing.

Rush Hour 2
Rated: PG-13

CAST: Jackie Chan, Chris Tucker, Roselyn "Don't Call Me Roseann" Sanchez

DIRECTOR: Brett Ratner

What's It All About, Alfie?

The sequel to the megahit action comedy Rush Hour again finds LA cop Chris Tucker paired with Hong Kong supercop Jackie Chan. The pair start out in Hong Kong on vacation but when someone blows up a government building and then the police station, they follow the suspected criminal back to the USA for fun and games in a new state of the art Las Vegas casino.

My Two Cents
This movie, unlike Scary Movie 2, is a rare sequel that is as good as the original. While some people may find Chris Tucker to be annoying, he amuses me. And Jackie Chan is the most exciting action star to watch on screen, because he does all his own stunts, plus he actually has some comedic talents too. Some of the same jokes from the first movie hang around for this installment, but there's enough new material to keep it fresh. I was glad the whole movie didn't take place in Hong Kong though, because that got a little old after a while. And goo god you heard it here first: Roselyn Sanchez is just damned HOT. Hopefully she'll be back for Rush Hour 3. If you go see this movie, make SURE you stay for the end credits because they have bloopers that are completely hilarious, particularly the last one.

Would I Buy This film on DVD?
I have the first one, and this one will make a nice companion in my collection. Maybe they'll add even MORE bloopers, including one of R. Sanchez naked, that would be nice. Overall, I give this film 4 out of 5 FIREBALLS

Retro Pick O' The Month
Bound

Rated: R

CAST: Gina Gershon, Jennifer Tilly, Joe Pantoliano

DIRECTOR:
The Wachowski Brothers

What's It All About, Alfie?
Violet (Jennifer Tilly) is a mobster's mistress looking for a way out. She enlists the help of tough girl next door Corky. Together they plot to steal over $2 million from the mob and make their getaway. Oh, and they also have incredibly HOT lesbian sex approximately 25 minutes into the movie.

My Two Cents
Damn you if you haven't already seen this movie. I've been singing it's praises for the last 5 years. Besides the SIZZLING scene between Corky and Violet, this is seriously a really well done movie. The plot twists and suspense factor are all first rate, as is the acting. This movie was seriously robbed of an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay, and you could make a case for Best Editing too. It DID receive an MTV Movie Awards nomination for "Best Kiss". Anyway, if you're offended by onscreen depictions of two women having sex with each other (and really, who isn't?) then fast forward through that scene and just watch the rest of the film, because it's an excellent suspense thriller.

Would I Buy This Film on DVD?
Yes! And also on VHS and laserdisc, and one day if they come out with some V-Chip where it implants movies directly into your head, I'm sure I'll get it in that format too. Overall, I give this film 5 out of 5 FIREBALLS with a small towel thrown in to wipe off the sweat given off from its INTENSE FLAMING HEAT.
