Is it me or are the NBA playoffs taking forever to play?
The 76s-Pacers series took 12 days to play 4 games, and I
thought the NHL playoffs dragged on. The LA Lakers, San
Antonio Spurs and Philadelphia 76ers have the best shots
at winning the championship. I give the nod to the
Lakers.
Last month, I
picked the Colorado Avalanche in the NHL playoffs to win
it all because of their domination of the regular season
and their goaltender, Patrick Roy. But the upstart LA
Kings are giving Roy and the Avs all they can handle. The
biggest upset of the first round were the Kings dumping
the Detroit Red Wings. Another upset was the Toronto
Maple Leafs sweeping the Ottawa Senators.
Michael Vick was
the first overall pick in the NFL draft, but didn't go to
the San Diego Chargers as expected. The Chargers made a
draft-day deal with the Atlanta Falcons, who wound up
with Vick, the QB from Virginia Tech. The XFL crowned
their champion last month and it turned out a lot like
the Superbowls have, a romp. The LA Extreme pounded the
San Fransisco Demons 38-6.
Now for the real news, baseball is through its first
month and some things went as predicted. The Toronto Blue
Jays, Boston Red Sox and NY Yankees are among the leaders
in the AL East. The Seattle Mariners are off to a great start and already
lead their division by 9 games. The unpredicted news is
happening in the Central division of both leagues as well
as the eastern division of the NL. All the teams leading
these divisions ended last year in last place. The
Philadelphia Phillies lead the NL East, the Chicago Cubs
lead the NL Central and, look who's leading the AL
Central! Come on now, say it with me, the MINNESOTA
TWINS! Someone pinch me --I think I'm dreaming.

The sporting world lost a great guy in Willie
"Pops" Stargell to cancer last month. He, of
the champion Pittsburgh Pirates "We Are Family"
team.
That's it for this month. Until next month, good night
and good sports.
