Quiz #13
Answers, Results & Commentary
Congratulations to both Bunny
Zukowski and Gabriella Zeigler winners of this
edition of NMLQOTM with a perfect score of 500 points!
Both correctly identified the theme, so this quiz ends in
a "perfect score" tie. Trailing them by only
one point was Debra Woolaver with 499
points. Anne Z. came in a close 3rd with
493 points.
Puff (The Magic Dragon) is listed with and without
parentheses in different sources - I accepted either
answer as correct. I goofed on the artist for "Young
Girl", early in The Union Gap's charting career,
they were billed as The Union Gap Featuring Gary Puckett,
and "Young Girl" was one of their 2 charters
released with that billing. Had I alphabetized this song
correctly, it would not have appeared in the 16th spot,
so I went ahead and gave everyone credit for either
answer. Technically, only "The Union Gap Featuring
Gary Puckett" was the correct answer.
Here are the correct titles and

TRIVIA:
Not a lot of trivia this time around - writing the puzzle
for NMLQOTM #14 took up most of the time that I had to
allot this week. All I have to offer is this list of
songs that kept each of the 25 songs in Quiz #13 from
reaching the top. Take a look and see if songs like
"Electric Avenue", "Rosanna" and
"Baker Street", which held down the runner-up
spot for several weeks, were kept from the top by
"superior" songs:
Do You Want To Know A Secret --->> Hello, Dolly!
Traces -->> Dizzy
Bad Moon Rising -->> Love Theme From
'Romeo and Juliet'
Dream Lover -->> The Battle Of New
Orleans
Yes, I'm Ready spent two weeks at #2, held
out both weeks by --->> Crazy Little Thing Called
Love
I'd Really Love To See You Tonight also
spent two weeks in the second spot, held out by
--->> Play That Funky Music
Electric Avenue - spent an amazing 5 weeks
at #2 - held out by --->> Every Breath You Take (#1
for 8 weeks)
Long Cool Woman (In A Black Dress) - 2 weeks
at #2 - the number one both weeks was -->> Alone
Again (Naturally)
Daniel -->> My Love
Handy Man -->> Theme From 'A Summer
Place'
Count Me In - #2 for 2 weeks - held out by
--->> Mrs. Brown You've Got A Lovely Daughter
Did You Ever Have To Make Up Your Mind? - 2
weeks, both weeks - Paint It Black
Nights In White Satin - 2 weeks, both weeks
- I Can See Clearly Now
Blue Suede Shoes - #2 for 4 weeks - isn't it
ironic - the #1 song the entire time was Heartbreak Hotel
Puff The Magic Dragon -->> If You
Wanna Be Happy
Young Girl - #2 for 3 weeks - held out by
Honey
Baker Street - another brave contender - 6
weeks at #2, but couldn't pass Shadow Dancing
19th Nervous Breakdown - 3 weeks at #2 -
held out by (You're My) Soul And Inspiration
Dangerous --?
Rosanna - #2 for 5 weeks - double-teamed by
Don't You Want Me and Eye Of The Tiger
Everybody Have Fun Tonight --?
Heaven --?
For Once In My Life - #2 for 2 weeks
--->> I Heard It Through The Grapevine
Dream Weaver - #2 for 3 weeks --->>
Disco Lady
She's Not There --->> Mr. Lonely
